About EJ

Selling out The Viper Room and headlining the Troubadour with his band, Lot 3, EJ (Ethan James) Chen (he/him) is a force, showcasing his multifaceted talents as an actor-singer-songwriter-musician-composer-choreographer-dancer-audio engineer-athlete-artist. Starring as the lead in two UCLA Color Box Productions, he charmed audiences as Seymour in the theatrical production of Little Shop of Horrors and as Enoch in the film, Hosanna. In UCLA's School of Theater, Film and Television, EJ captivated in HAIR the Musical, 21 Chump Street and the TFT Fringe Festival. With ScatterTones – UCLA’s Premiere A Cappella Group – he was a featured soloist and choreographer, competing to win 1st place in the West Sectional and Regional, and 3rd place at the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella in New York City.

In his last quarter at UCLA, EJ is performing in a staged reading of Dr. Silver at South Coast Repertory and portraying Earl in the Bimbos Theater Company’s production of Waitress. EJ also wrote, sang lead and played guitar on, recorded, and audio engineered Lot 3’s seven-song album “Spring Theory” (May 19, 2023 release) and will be performing his original music in UCLA’s largest and longest-standing talent showcase, Spring Sing, for the fourth consecutive year. On another stage, EJ is a three-time UCLA Intramural Basketball Champion, and is hoping to collect another title (and free t-shirt) at the end of the quarter. A sixth-generation Asian American, EJ strives for representation and inclusivity through his art.
